How much trouble can I get in this?

I decided to play a joke on a friend of mine. While playing poker that stealthily crawled under of the table and put three in his sneakers and lit them. I thought I would feel a slight burning sensation and then put it into panic and laughter would. Instead his sneaker caught fire and then the pants. At the end of the night he received second degree burns to the calf and the greater part of his leg. Now he will sue me. But I had no intention of that happening, it was a prank that went horribly wrong. Do you have a case against me?
